If you can allow for some if not all of your work to be done remotely, the job candidate pool broadens dramatically. First, identify the jobs and tasks that don’t require the worker to be on-site and transition them to remote work. Then you can focus on giving the work that must be done in the office to local employees.
Envision how you can use video conferencing for patient intake, and scribes or other tools that will allow your staff to interact with patients in remote locations.
Focus on making your work environment fun and meaningful. Make sure people know that it is more than just a job, that you know people have choices and that what you are doing matters. Celebrate the good, sympathize with the bad and most importantly care for your team and each other.
Consider changing your office hours. Maybe you end on Fridays at noon or reduce the workday by an hour. Maybe you buy lunch and breakfast every day for the team or perhaps Friday is a virtual day.
If you have multiple offices, centralize tasks so that the number of staff required in the office is at a minimum. Keep pulling insurance verifications, scheduling and other services to central staff members, which allows for efficiency and automation.
Identify your most time-consuming or painful tasks. Look for companies like mine who can help you create automations which reduce your need for people. Looking for where to start? Read How to Automate Your Practice for ideas and first steps.
Look for staffing companies that can help locally, remotely, or even internationally. This can include revenue cycle tasks, transcription services, lead generation, and other tasks.
Evaluate those lines of business that aren’t super profitable or that eat up valuable time that isn’t worth it anymore. Maybe you don’t need an aesthetician department anymore or doing botox isn’t that profitable.
